Inspirational Woman: Leher Sethi | Director, Something Creative

Wow, 10,780 of you have read this.

I am an engineer by education and started my career with a job in an MNC, but realized soon enough that doing a 9 to 5 job sitting at a desk wasn’t my cup of tea.

I needed something more to stimulate my brain, so I did everything from outdoor training camps & middle management technical trainings to wedding décor with designer houses, until I chanced upon the wellness industry. I have consulted multiple spas across Delhi – NCR. I got involved with the Delhi Literature Festival when it was being conceived and got into the space of doing events afterwards, and that is how my company was born. I now promote and organize various academic events. I run my own event conceptualization company called ‘Something Creative’ where I have collaborated and worked with various ministries of Delhi Govt. and the Central Govt. to do events of cultural and social importance.

Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote

I have been organizing the International Women’s Day Awards for ICUNR for the past couple of years wherein we recognize and honour women who have done exceedingly well in various fields. This year, we organized the awards with support from the Women & Child Development Ministry under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme. My next event is a Seminar on “Religion – Ideology Dichotomy in Indian Politics” on the 24th of July at India International Centre, as Co-convener and National Executive Member of the Rajiv Gandhi Intellectual Forum.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

It was my own convictions, I feel, that were my biggest challenge. Every time I believed I could, I did! When I left my cushy job in a multinational, almost everyone close to me was against my decision to do so. So, it’s not been easy.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

I feel that the birth of my son has been my greatest personal achievement. The sense of happiness I get through him is unparalleled to anything I’ve ever felt before.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

Hmmm… So, I might have been working in my 9 to 5 job in an MNC. On second thought, since I love to read and write, I might have been a journalist.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My father has always been an inspiration to me. Also, I highly respect and admire Maya Angelou.

What does the future hold for you?

How can anyone predict the future? I will continue to do my work with passion, and let’s see where it might take me.
