Introduction: Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently
I am an Excellence Coach and a Weight Management Specialist – I feel physical health and great nutrition is the foundation to everything else we wish to achieve in life – its time we all stopped trying to lose the same 10kg over and over again, and truly embraced our health and ourselves.
Around 10 yrs ago, inspite of leading a “healthy” lifestyle, I was struggling with hormonal disorders and infertility. I was told that it was very unlikely that i would be unable to conceive, even with medical intervention. I was devastated, but it was the jolt I needed to finally take responsibitity for my health – both physical and emotional. It took me one year of a combination of natural methods, exercise and diet to finally conceive. My little girl was born in 2010.
My troubles were not over, however. Motherhood and a fledgling business were both a handful, and I found myself struggling to the point of being suicidal. Everything was going great for me, and yet I could not feel happiness or joy. I realized then, that healing is emotional first, and the body follows – not the other way around.
I turned to the therapeutic and healing ability of Art, Music and Movement, and ancient ayurvedic practices and alternative healing methods. Finally I was able to heal the hormonal imbalances that were causing chaos in her life. As they say, around of every dark cloud comes a silver lining – mine was this wonderful combination of techniques, a toolbox that I had actually tried and tested myself. I decided to revisit my passion for wellness, and help and inspire people to take control of their health.
I started “Sunburst” – a creative wellness company, with a view to merge body and mind health ; to address the need for creative expression in a full, healthy life.
I joined De Mantraa Holistic Wellness as an Excellence Coach, helping clients with Diet plans, Nutritional Guidance, Emotional Wellness, Fitness plans tailor made to suit them.
My philosophy is “Life is not about finding yourself – it’s about creating yourself!”, so my approach is no-nonsense and no-gimmick. 20 yrs of experience in this business has taught me that shortcuts don’t exist, and ‘diets’ don’t work. What you need if you want to get your health in order, is a customized eating and training plan that is affordable, accessible, and achievable. That’s what I specialize in.
Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote
My newest baby is METABOOST™, a diet and fitness package I created to restore balance to your hormones.
Hormones are special chemical messengers in the body that work together to keep your metabolism going, your skin healthy, your weight down, and your sugar and cholesterol levels in check. Any imbalance in these will cause weight gain, especially around the abdomen, and a host of other symptoms ranging from stubborn weight gain to full blown diabetes.
Most women who struggle with weight gain often have some underlying hormonal issue that (if not severe) can be naturally corrected through diet and exercise.
METABOOST™ is specifically targeted for this purpose. It works against metabolic syndrome – a cluster of metabolic risk factors that could include insulin resistance, hypertension (high blood pressure and PCOD. Clients experience weight loss, lowered blood sugar and triglyceride levels, lowered blood pressure, just to name a few.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
I think my challenge is the same as all working women everywhere – balancing work and personal life. I used to get so overwhelmed balancing motherhood and a business, at one point it actually drove me to feeling suicidal. That was a long dark phase in my life, and forced me into a space where I hade to closely examine how I was living my life. I was living some destructive patterns that I had to break, and the first two I had to change were:
- Release yourself from peoples’ expectations.
The only person you are answerable to is yourself – do your best and forget the rest.
- Learn to prioritise and compartmentalise – then be ruthless about it.
Make lists and put your tasks in order of importance. Then, get it done.
Being a mom who’s very actively involved in school activities as well as a full time entrepreneur, things tend to get a bit hectic at times. These two methods (along with an extremely supportive husband) keep me on top of things and able to give my best at all times.
What has been your greatest achievement personally?
I’m proud to say I recently won the award for the 100 most influential healthcare providers because of my work with ‘Hormones and Weight loss’. This sounds like a professional achievement, but when you think about how my Hormones nearly brought me to my knees all those years ago, being able to turn the situation around for myself and countless other women- and to be awarded for it, no less – makes it a very personal win.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
Actually Im very fortunate to be living my passion right now – but if I was to choose, I would probably be a chef at a healthy meals food truck. I love to cook and preparing healthy meals that are palatable and from locally sourced ingredients would be amazing. I’d probably have painting and doodling sessions alongside the food, and have some awesome music playing too!
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
I have had some amazing mentors here – Terence Lewis, with whom I started my career; Dr. Meghana Dikshit, who literally held my hand through my toughest phases, my Mom, who is the epitome of not giving up no matter what.
My biggest inspiration however has to be Tony Robbins. His amazing ability to change lives without sounding judgemental, while also walking the talk himself – is something I would like to emulate in my own life and practice as well!
What does the future hold for you?
There are huge plans in the pipeline – my vision is to make as many people I can fall in love with taking care of themselves.
When fitness is no longer a punishment to be avoided, and a diet is not starvation to be suffered – great health goes on autopilot. That’s what I do when I work with a client, and that’s what I hope to achieve with every person that I work with.
My mission is to reach 10000 people by 2020 – because this is a movement. Then each person who has seen a change believes that it is possible, and inspires more change. That’s when we’ll see a downturn in preventable disease and dependency on medicines; and take our health in our own hands.
Supriti is a Chef, Nutritionist, Weight-management consultant, Entrepreneur, Internationally Certified Fitness Coach.
She completed her Diploma in Hotel Management from IHM Mumbai with a specialization in food production and food preservation.
She was an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified Group Fitness Trainer with the “Terence Lewis Academy” and one of the core contemporary dancers in the company in 1999.
She was a Group Fitness Trainer at THE CLUB, Mumbai, and Personal Trainer for such known names as Madhuri Dixit Nene, Bela Sehgal, Pinkie Roshan, Sunaina Roshan, Fllora Saini and many more. Her group fitness clients include Namrata Barua, Jaya Prada, Rati Agnithotri, Noureen Morani, Raj Zutshi, Varkha Chulani, Rushad Rana.
She in launched health snacks called “Nibbles” in 2001 and conducted “Soup and Salad” workshops.
She started her own boutique fitness studio “Supriti’s Bodyworks” in 2008, specialising in personalised group fitness classes.
In 2011, she was certified in Zumba™ Fitness with Master Trainer Ricardo Marmitte in Toronto, Canada.
She started a creative wellness company “Sunburst” in 2014 with a view to merge body and mind health. The studio hosted Zentangle™ and Art Therapy classes along with such radical fitness classes such as Doonya™ for creative expression and healing.
In 2016, she joined De Mantraa Holistic Wellness as an Excellence Coach – providing Nutritional Guidance, Emotional Wellness, and exclusive Pilates HIIT™ classes.
Supriti has been certified in Kickboxing, Pilates, Core-work, Rep-Reebok, Aqua-fitness, Step, Functional Training, and Zumba. She is a certified Weight Management Specialist with ACSM, and has majored in Nutrition. She has had the privilege of being mentored in Mindset by Mac Attram, Antano and Harini & Dr. Meghana Dikshit.
She is a Health & Fitness Consultant with over 20yrs experience, Certified Weight Management Coach, Teacher and Speaker. She offers workshops, One- to -one coaching, and seminars.
Supriti is also the ALL Ladies League Maharashtra Co-Chairperson For Fitness & Work-life Balance and inspires women to incorporate health and wellness in to their busy lives.
